In 1684, the castle brewery in Brand was first mentioned in historical records. What began as a small brewhouse within the castle walls soon developed into an independent brewery that supplied the surrounding region with fresh beer.
In 1936, a period of renewal started. Under the supervision of the University of Weihenstephan, the brewery’s beer quality improved dramatically, earning Brander Urstoff a reputation far beyond its home region.
In the 1950s rapid modernization and growing demand led to the golden years of Brander Urstoff: new bottling lines, modern equipment, and a fleet of delivery trucks brought the beer to an ever-widening circle of customers.
By the late 1960s, the brewery was regarded as a proud symbol of Brand. Although brewing in the original castle ended in 1969, the spirit of Brander Urstoff endures. Our brewing tradition, and dedication to quality continue to shape our beer.
